Available Plans

Figo offers the same three insurance plans for both cats and dogs. The plans cover the same types of expenses but differ in annual payout limits and lifetime caps.

All Figo pet insurance plans are customizable and allow selecting optional features, so your plan may end up at varied price points based on your needs and selections. The three basic plans are:

  • The Essential Plan – this is the most affordable option Figo has and it offers up to $5,000 in annual benefits. When customizing the plan you can choose your deductible – $100, $250, $500 or $750 – and your reimbursement rate – 70%, 80%, 90%, or 100%.
  • The Preferred Plan – the most paw-pular option among customers, offering $10,000 in annual benefits. Reimbursement can be set between 70% and 100%, with deductibles between $100 and $750, the same as with the Essential plan.
  • The Ultimate Plan – as the name suggests, it has unlimited annual benefits. Deductibles are the same as other plans, but reimbursement may only go up to 90%.

Optional features cost extra and include:

  • Exam Coverage Powerup – only for examinations concerning eligible illnesses and accidents.
  • Extra Care Pack – for final respects (cremation and burial), lost pet advertising and award, boarding fees, etc.
  • Wellness Powerup – for routine care coverage, including dental, vaccines, check-ups, etc.

Figo Pricing

According to the company, the plans cost around $1.50 daily on average; however, your Figo Pet Insurance cost will vary based on the way you’ve customized your plan.  Variations may be a result of your pet’s breed, age, gender, health state, and your chosen annual deductible and reimbursement rate.

As an example, let’s consider a California resident with a 3-year-old golden retriever female.

Assuming a reimbursement rate of 90% and a $500 deductible, an insurance policy would cost this person $55 for the Essential, $65 for the Preferred, and $73 for the Ultimate plan. Suppose this person also has a 1-year-old male Chihuahua. To take out a policy on this pet, they would need to pay $28, $33, or $37 for an Essential, Preferred, or Ultimate plan, respectively.

Figo also gives a choice to include add ons in your policy, such as exams fee and wellness coverage, which will bring up the overall cost.

Waiting Periods

The day following a company representative accepting a completed application, the Figo policy takes effect. From here, there is a designated waiting period in which the policyholder cannot file claims, and vet visits and treatments will not be covered.

There is a fourteen-day waiting period for illnesses and wellness benefits and a three-day waiting period for accidental injuries.

Coverage Limits

Different Figo plans offer different annual limits. These limits establish the maximum amount that can be paid out each year. The plans cap out at $5,000 (Essential), $10,000 (Preferred), or they may not have an annual limit (Unlimited).

Figo also places lifetime limits on policies; $100,000 for an Essential plan and $150,000 for a Preferred plan.

Does Figo Pet Insurance Cover Dental?

Many insurance companies are on the fence when it comes to covering dental expenses for pets. However, insurance companies generally accept dental coverage as part of the wellness plan.

Nevertheless, there’s a new trend prevailing in the market pushing insurance companies to make an exception to the rule and cover dental expenses if they come as a consequence of an injury.

Figo Pet Insurance has a strict rule regarding dental coverage and thus introduces non-routine dental procedures. If you have included this part in your plan, you will get dental treatment coverage in case of an accident.

But that’s not it. Non-routine dental care is only valid for two reasons: first, if your pet undergoes an accident, injury, predator attack, and damages his teeth; and second, Figo will cover the dental incident only if a vet confirms it.

Otherwise, if the vet notices periodontal disease or you file a claim for periodontal disease, the exception doesn’t apply. Instead, you should get Figo’s Wellness plan that’s more liberated in terms of dental issues.

Note that Figo’s Wellness plan isn’t available in every country. Check out Figo’s website and type in your ZIP code to see if it’s allowed in your state.

Claims

Thanks to Figo’s tech-focused design, the easiest way to submit a claim is through the

Figo Pet Cloud app. However, suppose you want to proceed with submission without the app. In that case, you can download the Figo pet insurance claim form from their website and send it by email, fax it to the company, or call Customer Experience for assistance.

For every claim, you will have to submit the paid vet invoice, and for your first claim with Figo. You will also have to provide your pet’s medical records from the last 2 years. The company aims to process each claim in 7-10 business days; however, it may take up to 30 days from when the claim was received.

The company’s underwriters are Independence American Insurance Company and Markel American Insurance Company.
