Not all vets take Lemonade pet insurance. Lemonade works with a network of over 30,000 vets in the US, but not all vets are part of this network. You can check Lemonade’s website to see if your vet is in their network.

If your vet is not in the Lemonade network, you can still use your Lemonade insurance, but you will have to pay a higher deductible. You may also have to pay a higher coinsurance rate.

Here are some things to keep in mind when using Lemonade pet insurance:

  • You will need to pay a deductible for each claim. The deductible is the amount of money you will have to pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in.
  • You will also need to pay a coinsurance rate for each claim. The coinsurance rate is the percentage of the vet bill that you will be responsible for paying.
  • Lemonade has a waiting period for some conditions. This is the amount of time you will have to wait before your insurance will cover certain conditions.
  • Lemonade has a lifetime benefit limit. This is the maximum amount of money your insurance will pay out for your pet’s lifetime.

Lemonade pet insurance has become quite popular over the past several years, the main reason for that being the fact that it is very cost-effective. However, there are some caveats when it comes to protecting your dog’s health with this type of insurance, and we’ll discuss that do all vets take lemonade pet insurance in today’s article.

We’ll also note whether or not you can use your Lemonade policy at any vet you want your pet to be seen by or if you are restricted to using certain clinics.

Will vets accept Lemonade pet insurance?

Any vets based in the United States can work with Lemonade Pet to provide care to your dog so long as they are licensed to offer veterinary care in your state.

But the main problem is that Lemonade Pet is only available in 35 states across the United States, which means that if you are based in any of the other 15 states, a Lemonade Pet policy will not reimburse you.

Where is Lemonade Pet insurance accepted?

The main place where Lemonade Pet policies are now being accepted is the United States. But what you might not know is that these policies, particularly for liability and renters, are also accepted in countries such as the Netherlands and Germany, along with France.

Does that mean you can use your Lemonade Pet insurance when you visit these countries? Probably not. The policies that Lemonade Pet sells to Americans strictly address these citizens’ needs, and to make things a little more complicated, you’re also able to benefit from these services only in the following states:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • Missouri
  • Nevada
  • Nebraska
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • New Jersey
  • New York

  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Texas

Does Lemonade pet insurance pay your vet directly?

Unfortunately, no. As is the case with the majority of the other pet insurance plans that we have looked at, you’ll have to pay for your veterinary services out of pocket first and then wait for the company’s reimbursement.

If you specifically want a firm that pays your vet directly, you can choose one of the following ones:

Some of these might only work on a case by case basis or might have certain requirements such as a particular type of software that the animal hospital is supposed to use. Either way, Lemonade Pet is not the right way of going about things if you want the insurance company to work with the vet directly.

Lemonade Pet insurance waiting period

The waiting period largely depends on the exact procedure that the veterinarian needs to perform on your dog. In some cases, such as cruciate ligaments, the waiting period can be very long and can sometimes even extend to 6 months.

On the other hand, if your dog is unlucky enough to be involved in an accident, you can rest assured that while you will have to pay out of pocket at the animal hospital, your insurance company (Lemonade Pet, in this case) will reimburse you in less than a week’s time, with the minimum waiting period being just two days

Various illnesses (with the exception of treatment for cruciate ligaments) typically have a waiting period of up to 14 days, so you can rest assured that thanks to your Lemonade Pet insurance, you will be reimbursed in less than two weeks’ time.

How reliable is Lemonade pet insurance?

The majority of the reviews we have looked at about Lemonade Pet policies are quite positive, specifically because it doesn’t take long for the company’s representatives to get back to pet owners when it comes to doing reimbursements.

Lemonade Pet insurance prices are also among the lowest we’ve encountered, which makes it possible for all pet parents to afford basic coverage against accidents and illnesses.

Wellness plans are available for covering additional health conditions, if you feel that your dog might be at a higher risk for developing something due to their history, breeding, or age, or if it’s something that might make you feel more reassured.

Any illnesses that are caused by neglect, elective surgeries such as neutering or spaying, along with pre-existing conditions are not covered by the basic plans now sold by Lemonade Pet. Dental care is yet another coverage exclusion.

All in all, considering that some of the most basic plans are billed at just $20 per month and can give you the option to receive a reimbursement of up to 90% of your vet bills, we’d say that Lemonade Pet is at least worth looking into if you’re based in one of the states we’ve mentioned previously.

Unlimited coverage costs just $24 per month.

If you’d like to get all the perks of your pet insurance, you can benefit from some types of discounts. For example, if you have multiple dogs, getting additional policies will get you a 5% discount. If you get your renters’ or home insurance from the same company, you’re eligible for a 10% discount on your pet insurance plan.
